Erasito Consultants Limited provided a detailed design for the construction of floating foundations for the two tanks and provided an approximation of the magnitude of differential settlements that would take place during operations. Recommendations were provided to improve the existing soil conditions and the construction works were monitored and supervised by the company.

The geotechnical tests involved: the undertaking of an initial site appraisal; dutch cone penetrometer tests, borehole sampling and dynamic cone penetrometer tests. The borehole logs were carried out in accordance with the NZ Geomechanics Society Guidelines. The geotechnical report provided recommendations on the types of footings and foundations that would be required for the given soil conditions.
